During the year the North Grafton PTG will ask for volunteers to staff various committees on events (see below). If you can help out on any of these committees please contact a Board member. Thank you for your continued help and support.
After School Enrichment
The after school enrichment program offers themed programs to students 2-3 times per year after school. These programs are both academic and extra-curricular in nature and primarily run by parent volunteers. (Fall, Winter and Spring)
AVID stands for Accepting Valuing and Including Differences. Students learn about different abilities through this hands on classroom experience.
Offered twice a year (Fall and Spring), volunteers are responsible for setting-up book fair, scheduling volunteers, assembling displays and assisting the children during preview and shopping days. Planning begins at the end of the previous year for reserving dates and August/ September & Spring (NGES- September & March/ NSS September & late Spring)
Organizing, collecting and submitting box tops throughout the year with volunteer help. As well as sending out appropriate fliers to students. (This can be done 100% from home on evenings and weekends. This program runs throughout the school year. NGES & NSS volunteers needed
Help create beautiful informative bulletin boards for the lobbies of either North Street or NGES schools. Sign up for one month or more! (Opportunities at both schools)
Community Reading Day
Coordinate letters to community readers, and their responses. Coordinate the books readers will read to classrooms some choose, others have teachers choose. Organize a welcome light breakfast reception, name tags, bookmarks for students and optional small gift for readers. (NGES – Fall / NSS – Spring)
Each grade has enrichment coordinators to work with the lead teachers and plan enrichment activities for the grade. Each grade has separate field trips/assemblies. Coordinators are responsible for booking activities and finding volunteers to work events as needed. Coordinators will also be asked to help with publicity regarding events. These programs run throughout the school year.
A group of parents and board members that evaluate different types of fundraising ideas to meet the PTG’s budget needs. This committee will meet as needed throughout the school year and will meet more frequently toward the end of the year for next year’s planning. (Year Round) A Chair or Co-Chair can be appointed.
Seek out and complete appropriate grants to help meet growing educational and school needs. Work with PTG Board and Teachers to communicate on which grants have been done and which grants applying for. (Can be done at home throughout the school year.)
Committee responsible for coordinating and providing refreshments for approximately 6-8 school events per year. One committee for each school.
Program allows children’s art work to be turned into unique gifts. Chairperson will be responsible for coordinating the collection of art and fees and distributing the gifts. (Spring at both schools)
This committee is responsible for helping weed, spread mulch and plant flowers usually in the Fall and Spring. (September & April/ May)
This committee is responsible for submitting all news worthy events, etc. to local newspapers and community websites. Also, helping with signage for special events. (Yearly commitment)
Time dedicated in the month of May to show appreciation for the teachers and staff of both schools.. (former teacher appreciation weeks include luncheons, breakfasts, ice cream sundae bars, flowers, “thank you”notes, and more…) Chairpersons meet with PTG Co-Presidents to coordinate teacher luncheon and other activities associated with Teacher Appreciation in May. National Teacher Appreciation is the 1st Tuesday in May. (Co-Chairs needed for both schools April – May)
Each year we offer yearbooks for the students of NGES and NSS. The committee needs assistance from parents taking photos, coordinating the art work, and the design of the overall yearbook. Chairpersons lead the design process and create the design online. This is a year long project.
ANNUAL EVENT DESCRIPTIONS
Back To School Night
Held at North Street, this community event (not a fundraiser!) is a fun way for families to reconnect after the summer. Food trucks will be on site, or families can bring their own picnic dinner.
Our largest fundraiser of the year, Fun Fair is a carnival atmosphere held in mid- May not only for the students of our school but the entire community. There are four chairpersons that share the responsibilities of coordinating the efforts of the sub-committees: Current Co-Presidents and Fundraising Chair or Co-Chair and if needed a past Co-President. Sub-committees will be formed for the various stations. Chair people needed to work with an experienced chair and expect many volunteer hours. This is our largest fundraiser for the both schools. Many hands make light work. Meetings and planning run January – May)
Holiday Pancake Breakfast with Santa
This annual pancake breakfast event is held on a Saturday in December at NGES. Chairperson is responsible for coordinating volunteers, set-up for the event and purchasing necessary food items. Santa is reserved by the end of the school year previously. (November / December)
Ice Cream Social
Held during the spring book fair at NGES, ice cream is given to the students of NGES and sold to families for a small fee. Chairpersons needed to arrange for ice cream donation, supplies and volunteers for the night of the event. (March)
A family night at the school where a movie is shown and you are able to purchase popcorn and refreshments. Chairperson is responsible for selecting movie and purchasing refreshments. Volunteers are needed for the night of. (2 to 4 events throughout the year at NSS)
Pizza & Magic Night
This annual event is a fun community event at NGES. Pizza is donated by Pepperoni Express. The rest of the supplies we purchase. Chairperson is responsible for coordinating volunteers, set-up for the event and purchasing necessary food items. There are 2 shifts for pizza (in cafeteria) and 2 shifts for Mr. Magic (in Gymnasium) (1st Friday in November)
Students will walk during an extended recess period in October, gather pledges, company match thru parents or relatives employment, and try to win prizes. Co-Chairs will also send out sponsor letters (by July) This committee would help coordinate volunteers, help finalize themes, prizes, etc. Put together packets for students to take home in September, we usually can get the support of Kohls for the packets. This is our 2nd largest fundraiser for the 2 schools. (Planning end of previous school year –July and September & October) NGES has a mascot- Jake the Lion NSS has a DJ at the walkathon
